Body Blog

Body Blog is a kinesthetic community diary. These posts are honest movement responses to our lives and the world we experience. Body Blog furthers Junction Dance Theatre’s mission to make dance an integral medium within our community by bringing dance to new audiences via the Internet and public realm performances. Anyone can participate. Please take this opportunity to view our physical thoughts and share yours as well.

Site Launch

Hello,

After two years of planning Body Blog, we've finally obtained enough resources to begin the project. I'd like to thank The Heinz Endowments for the Arts, The Poise Foundation, and The Henrietta Tower Wurts Memorial Fund for making the launch of Body Blog possible.

So far, the site reflects the outreach work we do in public schools. But Body Blog is not just for students. It's for all ages and all experiences: seniors, lawyers, construction workers, visual artists, dancers, shamans, postal workers, you name it, and over the next year, as we record and receive more Body Blogs it will reflect it.

Please don't miss our first Body Blog community day, this Saturday, June 9, 3-4PM at the 40th Street Summer Series at the 40th Street Field on the corner of 40th and Walnut in Philadelphia. The event, which runs from 2-5PM, also features Anne-Marie Mulgrew & Dancers Co., Underground DanceWorks (UDW), West Phila. Orchestra, Xin Li, and Unidos Da Filadelphia. http://ucityphila.org

Soon it will also include Body Blogs made by Junction Dance Theatre artists. I wanted people to find their own way into their movement diaries before seeing how we might envision ours. Just like a diary entry, there's no right or wrong way to make a Body Blog. It's about being honest with yourself and being in touch with your body; expressing the moment through movement.

I look forward to your interaction with this project.

Thank you,
Melanie Miller
